This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:

If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.

This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace

everyone who reblogs this and is like “I ordered my own tea this week” or “I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation’- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.

As much debate as there is about tone tags, 90% of the issues would be solved by just typing the word. Like instead of typing /gen or /hj you can just write (genuine) or (handjob) and you’ll be doing pretty much the exact same thing.

Of course I personally think it’s less awkward to use some rudimentary language skills to form actual sentences and phrases. They don’t even have to be complicated. Like “Genuine question, why are you doing that?” Or “I’m being serious. Stop that.” Or “I’m going to jerk you off now.”

Look y'all, this reveal means so much to me. So many times in movies these days there are big reveals for the audience’s benefit that mean absolutely nothing in the context of the story or to the characters in it. I’m talking the Thanos cameo in the Avengers’ stinger, I’m talking Benedict CumberKhan in Star Trek, I’m talking about every hackneyed “This character is actually this other character” when in universe nobody knows nor cares about their true identity.

But here? This reveal? This is a Big Reveal for us, Peter B Parker, and Miles, all on different levels. We and Peter both know Doc Ock is a portly dude, not a woman. We know the name Octavius… Otto Octavius. But when she says her name is Olivia Octavius we’re clued in to the fact that Doctor Octopus is a woman in this universe. And she has Peter captive.

Miles, if he was paying attention in science class earlier in the movie, would have known her name was Olivia Octavius, but that doesn’t mean anything to him, why would it? Liv has apparently been very good about keeping her supervillainy a secret. She’s in educational videos shown in high-schools. So to Miles, the reveal here is this scientist lady, who he knew enough about to know was the head scientist at Alchemax, is a supervillain. He gets the reveal a second or two after Peter.

And the movie? It was dropping hints the entire time, confident in our expectations blinding is to the truth. Olivia’s name was partially visible when Miles got to science class. Her glasses are octagonal. The lights in her lab are octagonal. We know she’s working with the Kingpin. Why wouldn’t she be a supervillain? Because she’s hot? Hell, Peter even says he needs to reexamine his internal biases. Maybe he was telling us that we should too.

It’s a reveal for us, and for our heroes. It means something, both in-universe and out. And that makes it infinitely better than other similar reveals.

I’m not reading all that I want her to dissect me

Random old finnish folklore I recall reading: The reason you have to close someone’s eyes after they die, or cover their eyes with a cloth if you can’t, is because the spirit of the newly passed is still in the body and even though it can’t move the eyes anymore, it can still see. You must avoid making eye contact with the dead body, because the soul of the newly dead is scared to go alone, and is looking for someone to come with them. If you lock eyes with the corpse, you will be the next to die.

…So is the second corpse still hazardous, then, or are they fine since they have the first one for company?

I must confess I don’t really know about the more exact details of the undead buddy system.

So we made this lake for detecting neutrinos and it’s full of the most perfectly pure H2O probably ever to exist. It has no dissolved minerals or oxygen or anything at all. And it fucking hates being like this, this state is deeply unnatural, it craves having things to dissolve, it once ate an entire wrench in a couple of days.

Anyway I think that’s what being an angel is like, you’re so pure of desire that your presence leaches the desire of those around you, someone who spends too much time around you will loose everything up to and including their desire to keep breathing.

We could put this lake out of it’s misery by giving it things to absorb, bags of salt, chunks of metal, corpses even. And it’d be just like any other body of water

The same is true of angels, if one starts following you about and leaching your desires you can fix it the same way. Overstim it until it screams, force feed it until it pukes, hurt it until it cries, fill it so full of sensations that its halo falls off and it’ll be like any other human. And then put a collar on it, it’s basically a new born so it can’t look after itself yet.

I’ve adopted five new pets this way

It’s funny when Tumblr screenshots circulate other websites or you show one to someone who’s not super online and they think they’re supposed to pay attention to the usernames as a part of it so they get really hung up on the fact that a comment comes from a handle like “SloppyMuppetBalls” or “werewolf-smegma-collector.” No not that part. That’s the normal part. Don’t laugh at our dear friend ClownHoleSlurper I’m trying to show you their insightful takes on economics
